<p>A method for detecting recombination of DNA from a first portion of a virus with DNA from a second, different portion of the virus in a sample to be tested. The method comprises amplifying any such recombined virus in the sample using a first primer complementary to a nucleotide sequence of the first portion of the virus and a second primer complementary to a nucleotide sequence of the second portion of the virus; and detecting amplification of DNA in the sample. The principal embodiment is detecting amplification of DNA recombined from the first and second viral portions, particularly replication competent virus such as replication competent retroviruses (RCRs).</p> |
