The forging, with a stem at one end, is mounted in a bottom tool (4) and perforated by a punch (2) in a top one (3). Immediately before perforation a holder or guide (5) on the top tool is moved down onto the bottom one. The punch is guided in a hole (5a) passing through the holder. A force in the opposite direction is exerted on the forging (1) by the tool (6) accommodating it, and which has a passage (6a) right through it and into which the punch penetrates, when the latter reaches or approaches its lowermost position.
