The switch has a rotor (20) displaced between a number of different rotary positions, for operating different contacts of a contact device. The switch housing (10) enclosing the rotor has an opening adjacent the rotor bearing closed by a cover (40) with a wedge element (46) fitting into a slot (22) in the rotor to provide an axial retaining stop.Pref. a second rotor slot (21) receives a stop element (24) cooperating with a groove (45) provided by the switch housing or the cover with stop surfaces at either end.
