Data input control for postal franking machine

A portable postal franking machine for use by a number of individuals has an I/O stage (6) that is bus coupled to a CPU (5), memory (3) and clock in an internal system. Other inputs are provided from a weighing unit (22) and keyboard (8). A special circuit is provided in the form of a battery powered CMOS-RAM and an EEPROM within the memory (3).The base of the machine contains a printer module (7) and a power electronics and/or actuator sensor module (11). Access to the unit is by using a chip card containing user data and tabulated data that enables handling of different tariff data and user control.
