The damper has a hydraulic damping element (6) and a mechanical friction damping ring (7). The friction ring adjoins with radial pretension a fixed part (1), and projects into a groove (8) in a loose part (2). The groove is axially longer than the friction ring.The fixed part and loose part are cylindrical or hollow cylindrical. The slight vibrations which normally occur during operation are damped only by the hydraulic damping unit.
