A new device for removing gases from paste-like products consists of a de-gassing vessel (3) in whose upper part is a pressure-relief and de-gassing device and a product inlet pipe (1), and in whose lower part a product outlet is provided. The novel feature is that a compressed air supply pipe (8) is connected to the inlet pipe (5), and a pressure-relief head (9) is provided at the end of the inlet pipe inside the vessel. This pressure-relief head consists of an inner container (10) with openings (11) and an outer container (12) with opening (13). The height of the de-gassing vessel is greater than its width, and the pressure-relief head is located in the upper third of the vessel. The inner and outer containers of the pressure-relief head may be spherical in shape, and in general have the same shape but different dimensions. Alternatively, the inner and outer containers may be of different shapes. The outer container of the pressure head is divided, and the line of division (16) lies in the horizontal plane. Controllable throttling valves (17) are provided in the inlet pipe and in the compressed air supply pipe and are used for controlling the flow of compressed air in relation to the product flow rate. The compressed air is preferably sterile, and the de-gassing vessel is normally located in the connection between the fermentation tank and the yeast tank. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for removing carbon dioxide from yeast (claimed). Paste-like products are effectively and economically de-gassed.
