PURPOSE:To obtain a camera provided with a focus detecting means and a line-of-sight detecting means in which automatic focus detection is performed by effectively using the line-of-sight detecting means detecting the gazing point of the eyeball of a photographer and the focus detecting means detecting the focusing position of a photographing system at plural points. CONSTITUTION:This camera is provided with the line-of-sight detecting means detecting the gazing direction of the photographer who looks in the finder visual field of the camera, the focus detecting means repetitively detecting the focusing state in plural range-finding areas in the finder visual field of the photographing system, a line-of-sight decision means 102 deciding the state of a line-of-sight signal obtained by the line-of-sight detecting means, a focus decision means 103 deciding the state of a focus signal obtained by the focus detecting means, and a selection means 104 selecting at least one range-finding area out of plural range-finding areas based on the signal from the means 102 and the signal from the means 103. |
