PURPOSE:To obtain the homogeneous uniform lightweight composite material having a small density and a large strength. CONSTITUTION:A mat-like material comprising glass fiber bundles accumulated in a curved shape is impregnated with a melted thermoplastic resin and subsequently compressed to form the compressed composite material in which the glass fibers are coated with the thermoplastic resin. While the thermoplastic resin is held in the melted state, the compression force is released to expand the compressed composite material in its thickness direction due to the elastic resiliency of the matlike material, thus producing the lightweight composite which contain many produced pores 4, in which the thermoplastic resin is coated on the surfaces of the glass fiber bundles, and in which the glass fibers are bound to each other with the thermoplastic resin. |
