Method and tool for compiling code in digital computers

The present invention relates to compilers for digital computer programs, and more particularly to a compiler framework that is adapted to be used with a number of different computer languages, to generate code for a number of different target machines. It is essentially characterized by the following steps: accessing a source code module; generating a flow graph in an intermediate language where the flow graph is composed of tuples each representing a unique expression in the source code module; for each of the tuples, representing an expression having an effect on another tuple, an indication of this effect is included in this tuple; and for each tuple representing an expression having a dependency upon another tuple, an indication of this dependency is included in this tuple. The invention further relates to a tool for compiling code and a method of optimizing code with a compiler.
