Prodn. of a resistive current limiter or switching element based on a superconductor (3), in which the superconductor is in contact with an electrically conducting metal, comprises: (i) using at least one strip (5,6) of non-superconducting metal (5) or a non-conductor-metal compsn. (5,6) in at least one coil in a molten mould or disk (1). This strip (5,6) forms bars (2); (ii) applying in the disk (1) non-molten powdered starting material of a high temp. superconductor (3); (iii) partially melting or hot pressing the powdered starting material in the disk (1), followed by sintering; and (iv) calcining in an O2-contg. atmosphere. ADVANTAGE - Element has good thermal and mechanical stability.
