摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the life of a battery at high temperatures by preventing the discharge product from being dissolved or diffused at high temperatures by forming a thin metallic nickel film over the active material surface of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:After a paste or sheet is prepared from an active material powder which principally consists of CdO or Cd(OH)2, the paste or sheet is applied to the surfaces of a porous steel plate to make a pasted electrode. Next, a thin metallic nickel film layer of 0.1-2mu thickness is formed over the active material surface of the above electrode by vacuum vapordeposition or negative sputtering. By thus forming a dense layer of minute metallic nickel particles over the surface of the electrode, the cadmium component is prevented from being dissolved or deposited at high temperatures. Consequently, it is possible to increase the charge-and-discharge cycle life of the battery.
