MANUFACTURE OF AIR ELECTRODE AND AIR BATTERY USING THIS AIR ELECTRODE

PURPOSE:To prevent the leak from an air hole resulted from the dropping-out of a metal screen and provide satisfactory electric collecting effect by rolling a metal sheet after heating and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A metal screen 2 formed by knitting a material such as stainless SUS 304 or nickel is heated and sintered at 900-1100 deg.C in the nitrogen atmosphere or hydrogen reducing atmosphere of an electric furnace. The screen 2 is then rolled between rollers so that the ratio before and after rolling is 1.11 < before rolling/after rolling <=2.50. The screen 2 is used as the core material of a catalyst sheet containing a fluorine resin to form an air electrode. The rolling may be performed prior to heating and sintering. Thus, dropping-out of a metal piece by punching is eliminated, a leak is prevented, and an air electrode and air battery excellent in electric collecting property can be provided.
