PRODUCTION OF SURFACE ANTIGEN OF HEPATITIS B VIRUS

PURPOSE:To obtain a surface antigen of hepatitis B virus useful as a vaccine. CONSTITUTION:A transformant containing a DNA having a base sequence encoding surface antigen P31 of hepatitis B virus is cultured, the surface antigen P31 of hepatitis B virus is formed and accumulated in the culture mixture. The prepared P31-containing solution is purified by a purifying process including affinity chromatography treatment using poly-human serum albumin as a ligand to produce surface antigen P31 protein of hepatitis B virus. The surface antigen P31 protein of hepatitis B virus is useful as a vaccine for diagnosing, preventing and treating hepatitis B virus.
