PURPOSE:To decrease the amount of electrolyte by refilling by re-using the electrolyte flowing out while inverting the supply and exhaust directions of the fuel or oxidator gas when the specified operating time is attained, making uniform the amount of electrolyte having gone. CONSTITUTION:The air (H2) from lines 11, 21 sends phosphoric acid aqueous solution in tanks 13, 23 to the body 10 via evaporators 14, 24 and mixers 12, 22. The gas is exhausted with appropriate valve operation via the course from valves 15, 25, an oxygen electrode 31, a hydrogen electrode 32, valves 18, 28, and lines 19, 29. Collectors 41, 42 on the lines 19, 29 separate the electrolyte, collects the phosphoric acid electrolyte back to the tank 13, 23 via lines 43, 44, and sends the exhaust air and exhaust fuel to the next step through lines 45, 46. A timer and an output meter are furnished to monitor the operating time and battery output. When the operating time exceeds the specified value and the output remains under the specified level, the gas flowing direction for each electrode is changed oppositely by means of appropriate valve operation. According to this constitution, deterioration of battery performance is prevented effectively, and the lifetime is prolonged. |
