An expansion device (6) consists of a small pouch made from a silicone film and used to facilitate oral reconstruction in cases of bone loss. A method for fitting said expansion device (6) under a patient's gum (3) for oral reconstruction purposes is also provided. The film has an additional thickness (11) at one point (10) and is protected against perforation by means of an internal cover portion (12) positioned opposite the area of additional thickness and bonded directly to each side of thr area over which it passes, but is not bonded over its entire periphery. The expansion device (6) may have the general shape of a parallelepiped, an arc, a half-arc, a cylinder and even a tooth root. It is inserted, while empty, between the gum (3) and the bone (4) of the patient, and is then gradually filled using a syringe (7).
