PURPOSE:To prevent a runaway and a fault of a battery by detecting abnormality of an individual cell of the battery. CONSTITUTION:While a cell group of a battery 11 is connected to an external load 15 through a DC/AC converter 12 and made to discharge, voltages of individual cells are measured sequentially at a prescribed time interval. Measured voltage values are inputted to a comparing circuit 24 and compared with a reference voltage (0V or above, a standard discharge lower-limit voltage or above) set beforehand by a reference voltage generating circuit 25. At a time point when the voltage of any one of the cells sent from a voltage detecting means 23 lowers below the set reference voltage in the course of continuation of the discharge, a signal is sent from the comparing circuit 24 to an alarm signal generating device 26, and an alarm is generated from the alarm signal generating device 26 and simultaneously the connection between the batteries which are connected in series and in which abnormality occurs, and the load 15, is opened by a DC breaker 27. Thereby a runaway and a fault of the battery can be prevented. |
