PURPOSE: To obtain a denim cloth having clear fade tone by removing dark stain caused by manganese dioxide from a denim cloth of fade tone. CONSTITUTION: A denim cloth is desized, washed and brought into contact with potassium permanganate to oxidize a part of the colored material in the denim cloth to a form easily removable from the cloth surface and, consequently, partly decolor the denim cloth. In the above wet-treating method for denim cloth, the decolored denim cloth is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing 0.5-5 wt.% hydrogen peroxide, 1-3 wt.% aliphatic carboxylic acid having 2-3 carbon atoms and 1-2 wt.% phosphonic acid chelating agent at pH 3.5-5 to remove manganese dioxide deposited on the decolored denim cloth. |
