This strut includes two rigid internal tubes 4, 5 for connecting, on the one hand, to a vehicle chassis and, on the other hand, to its engine, a hollow and rigid external framework 7 made of a composite material, this framework 7 thus possessing, along its length, two opposite walls 7a, 7b and two internal elastic pads 8, 9 with low stiffness joining the said opposite walls 7a, 7b of the external framework respectively to the said internal tubes 4, 5. In the external framework 7, the fibres of the composite material are crossed and orientated, at least in the case of some of them, at an angle of greater than +/- 30 DEG with respect to the axis of the strut.
