Flooring material comprises a base-plate 1 having a wearing layer of wood 3, of thickness 0À2-1À5 mm. adhered to one surface, the material of the base-plate being substantially harder than the wood. The surface layer may be adhered to the base in a press, by means of a glue based on carbamide polymers or polyvinyl acetate. The wood may have a plastics coating and the base-plate may be provided on its other side with a contra layer of wood 5 to balance the construction. The base-plate may be of thickness 2-10 mm. and may be in the form of a wood board having a tongue and groove for connection with other planks, or may be of hardboard, asbestos-cement, or cement-bonded wood fibre. Examples of woods used for the surface and contra layers are given.</p> |
