A tensioning rod (18) slides within a cylinder (20) under restraint of a compensating spring (26). The amount of compensation is adjusted by turning a threaded rod end (22) located within a cap (24). The cylinder (20) is solid with the pivoting camera platform (10). The free end of the tensioning rod (18) is connected to the fixed axis of rotation (12) of the platform (10) by an inextensible chain (28) which passes around a free pulley (30) whose axis is fixed to the platform (10). The chain (28) and rod (18) remain aligned under rotation. ADVANTAGE - Maximum compensation for slope of particular site is applied as tensioning rod and chain remain aligned under rotation.
