The base (2) of the machine has three surfaces (14-16) on which pads (18-20) bear at angles when the upright post (4) of a portal moves in a horizontal direction. One surface (16) extends parallel to that direction in a plane inclined to the other two sliding planes at different but complementary angles ( alpha , beta ). The pad (20) bearing on this surface compensates for the forces exerted on the other two surfaces by their respective pads. ADVANTAGE - Number of pads is reduced along with requirements for precise machining of surface on which they slide.
