PURPOSE: To inhibit liquid deposition or fiber formation from occurring or to mitigate the change when exacerbation of atherosclerosis of a mammal becomes greater by administering a specific hydroxylation metabolite of doxazosin of its salt to the mammal. CONSTITUTION: A compound or its salt represented by the formula is administered to a mammal suffering from atherosclerosis. As the compound, a hydroxylation metabolite of doxazosin (i.e., 4-amino-2-(4-(1,4-benzodioxane-2- carboxyl)-piperazin-1-yl)-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline), in particular, 7'-hydroxyl- doxazosin in which a hydroxyl group is bonded to doxazosin at its 7'-position, is preferred. At the time of performing oral administration of the compound represented by the formula to a human body, the compounds is preferably administered in a daily dose of 0.15 to 0.3 mg/kg by dividing into several portions at prescribed intervals. |
