[Also in Division F4] In a ship for transporting a liquefied gas, a gas-storage tank has flat vertical end-walls abutting transverse bulkheads 4, Fig. 4, attached to an inner hull 3 of the ship and having an octagonal profile to suit the configuration of an outer hull 74, the end walls of the tank being fixed to eight longitudinallyorientated walls, and each of said walls being constituted by inner and outer liquid-tight barriers 37, 8 and inner and outer thermal insulation 14, 1. At either end of the tank octagonal inner and outer frames are provided to effect connection between the respective end wall and the ends of the longitudinallyorientated walls, each frame being constituted chiefly by wooden planks 61, 62 and 43, 44, respectively, Fig. 1. Metal plates forming the barriers are fixed to the respective frames by screws; and chairs made of iron plates 45, 46 to support the outer frame are fixed to the inner hull and the adjacent end wall by brackets 47. Chairs 59, 60 for supporting the inner frame are coupled to the corresponding chairs for the outer frame by rods 58. Each corner of each inner frame includes a trihedral member 71, Figs. 1 and 2, made of steel, e.g. nickel steel containing 9% nickel, having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, this member being connected to a similar one 67 in the outer frame by three rods 72. Three tubular rods 68 connect each of the members 67 to the inner hull and the adjacent end wall, which rods are preferably made of the steel aforesaid. The plates from which the barriers are made have a low coefficient of thermal expansion and are therefore preferably made of an alloy steel having a high nickel content. |
