[Also in Division B5] A package, comprising a strip 10 (Fig. 3, not shown) of thermoplastic material having a tray 11 and receiving-pockets 12 formed therein and mounted on a flat base sheet 14 of stiffer card material, is produced by feeding the strip 10 intermittently through a vacuum forming- machine to form a series of trays 11 and then into a sealing unit 13 (Fig. 1, not shown). The base strip 14 is also fed into the sealing unit and the two strips are sealed together along the longitudinal edges of the trays and also transversely between the trays. On leaving the sealing unit the combined strips are cut into individual packages, filled and overwrapped in a heat sealable tubular plastics material, or enclosed by individual transparent plastics covers which are sealed at their edges to the perimeter of the strip 10. In another embodiment the pockets are filled as the trays leave the sealing unit and before they are cut into individual trays. |
