A small liquid crystal display having a good controllability and a high image quality. The television signals (100) are sampled and stored in an analogue memory (104). Data are read from the analogue memory in synchronism with the scanning signals of a scanning electrode driver (107), and are output to a commparator (105). In the comparator, the data are compared with the reference waveform from a reference waveform generator (101) to convert them to the signals the pulse width of which is modulated. The modulated signals are output to a driving waveform formation unit (109) to produce AC electrode driving signals compensated for temperature, which are output to the signal electrodes of a liquid crystal panel (106). Thus an image is displayed based on the television signals. Since the analogue signals are modulated in a continuous pulse width, a high quality image display can be obtained without any quantization noise. |
