The arrangement comprises two slidingly interengaged members 1, 2 which together define towards one end a guideway 7 for receipt of an elongate flexible element eg a rope 15, the guideway 7 having means 9, 12 to securely engage said flexible element on sliding the members to a closed position, there being provided towards the other end a channel 3 for the receipt of a second elongate element, e.g. a safety rail (not shown), the channel 3 being substantially perpendicular to the guideway 7 and the arrangement being such that sliding of the members to the closed position brings a locking element 14 on one of the members 2 across the channel 3 in the other member 1 thereby simultaneously firmly engaging the flexible element 15 in the guideway 2 and preventing removal of the second elongate element from the channel 3. As shown, the means to securely engage the flexible element comprise wedges, and alternative forms are shown in Figures 3, 4. Other modifications are disclosed. <IMAGE> |
