The system has upper (16) and lower (17) aprons guided by a cage (20) which swings about the axis (A) of the lower drafting roller against an adjustable stop (23). The cage (20) ensures that the upper drafting roller pair and the upper apron (16) are parallel to the lower roller (8). A common stop (23) may be used for cages (20). The direction (W) of the loading force (P) on the upper apron (16) may pass at least ca. through the stop (23). The lower drafting rollers (1,2,3) are pref. part of continuous shafts (7,8,9) running the length of the machine. The upper pressure rollers (4,5,6) are in separate pairs. A cage (20) with guide bars (18,19) swings round the axis (A) of the lower roller (8) and ensures the aprons (16,17) run parallel. It abuts against a stop (23) which is mounted on an eccentric bearing for easy common height adjustment along the length of the machine. When the drafting system is opened, the upper apron (16) is pref not swung upwards so tolerances are maintained from position to position.
