<p>A pipe handling system for moving tubulars (13) from a horizontal position on a piperack to a vertical position over the well centre or a mousehole through the V-door of a drill rig. The system comprises a biceps arm pivotally fixed to the drill rig structure (46), a forearm pivotally fixed to the biceps arm and a gripper head (21) pivotally fixed to the forearm. The system is connected to the drill rig by means of a base plate which can slide relative to a base mounting plate, the base mounting plate being fixed to the rig structure, so that the whole pipe handling system can be moved horizontally relative to the base mounting plate. This arrangement allows the system to be moved out of the area central of the catwalk (53) for repair or maintenance so that a conventional cable handling system can be installed.</p> |
