摘要 In the study of living organisms using a polarizing microscope, a compensatory wave-plate 18, e.g. a birefringent crystal, is positioned between a polarizer 14 and a sample object 10 on the one hand and an analyzer 16 on the other hand. The system is set up to establish interference colours. By positioning the wave-plate 18 asymmetrically relative to the polarizer and/or the analyzer the chromatic response (colour intensity) is enhanced for all live organisms and increased colour contrasts are obtained. Images can be obtained of entire, living, moving organisms. The wave-plate 18 is set at a small angle, between 2 DEG and 15 DEG , to the polarizer and/or analyzer. <IMAGE>
