PURPOSE:To provide a new sporotricin compound produced by culturing a microbial strain belonging to the genus Sporotrichum and extracting the compound accumulated in the microbial cell, having activity to inhibit the division of sea urchin germ and antibacterial activity and useful as pharmaceuticals such as carcinostatic agent and antibacterial agent. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to the genus Sporotrichum [e.g. Sporotrichum gougerotii (IFO-5982)] is inoculated on a medium and cultured at 28 deg.C for 3 days under shaking. The cultured liquid is added to a medium in a jar fermenter, cultured at 28 deg.C for 4 days under aeration and agitation and filtered to obtain wet microbial cells. The cells are incorporated with methanol, stirred at room temperature for 3hr and filtered to obtain a methanol extract liquid. The extract is dried and the solvent is distilled off under reduced pressure. The objective sporotricin compound (salt) expressed by formula (X is H, glucosyl or galactosyl; R1 and R2 are carboxyl, ester or amide group) is produced by purifying the residue by silica gel thin-layer chromatography. |
