PURPOSE:To provide a drawing method for an optical fiber base material so that even the end of the base material is effectively drawn into a fiber. CONSTITUTION:When the fiber material is drawn, a dummy member 14 is connected to the upper end of the base body 10, namely, to the side to be hooked on a supporting body. This dummy member has same viscosity as that of the clad of the fiber base body 10 at drawing temp. For example, when the clad of the fiber base body consists of fluorine-doped quartz glass, the dummy member consists of quartz glass doped with the same amt. of fluorine. Thereby, no change is caused in the drawing tension even near the last of drawing and an optical fiber without change in characteristics can be obtd. from the upper end of the fiber base. |
