The stand has a recess (4) which holds the shell to be opened. One lower edge (2) of the stand is bent downwards and fits against the edge of a work surface, to prevent the stand slipping when a knife is inserted into the shell. The recess is concave, to hold the shell and the sea water which flows from it. A curved plate (3) partly covers the top of the shell and the palm of the user's hand is put over this. The shell is held by the thumb and fingers, to prevent it sliding. USE - Stand to hold oyster or other shell fish while shell is opened.
