Converging, parallel and diverging zones are provided by a conveyor belt (1) running parallel to an opposing counter surface (16) to form a layer of flowing material. The flowing material, in the parallel zone at the start of the diverging zone separates in to two part-layers. A measurement value corresp. to the force, which is necessary in order at the start of the diverging zone, to distance the conveyor belt from the counter surface, is determined as a measure of the ease of flow of the flowable medium.
