PURPOSE:To provide the subject remarkably effective method for efficiently and stably producing industrially useful ethyl acetate in a gas phase by using a heterogeneous solid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The method for producing ethyl acetate by reacting ethylene with acetic acid in a gas phase in the presence of a solid catalyst consisting of a metal phosphotungstate prepared by partly substituting protons of phosphotungstic acid with cesium cation and further with one or more kinds of metallic cations selected from a group I metal cation except cesium in the periodic table, a group VI metal cation, a group VIII metal cation, a group IX metal cation, a group X metal cation, a group XI metal cation and a group XIV metal cation. If the above reaction is carried out in the presence of water, the resultant catalyst exhibits a more excellent activity. |
