The machine is mounted on a chassis (1) on crawler tracks (11), and has a storage bin (3) across the front of the vehicle between the tracks. To each side of the bin is attached a swivelling chute (4), which when extended, outwards lies in a position below the side tilting skip (8) of a ballast carrying goods wagon running on rails (7) adjacent and parallel to the track being laid. The chutes (4) swing upwards and inwards to a vertical position when not in use. A wheel or roller (5) is attached to the upper outer edge of the chutes revolving on an axle parallel to it. ADVANTAGE - Flexible for loading so that shunting of wagons is unnecessary.
