<p>PURPOSE:To protect a piping device from corrosion by electrochemically converting dissolved oxygen in water, such as feedwater causing corrosion into hydroxide ions. CONSTITUTION:First, feedwater is transferred to a cathode chamber 3 to give it electrodchemical reducing treatment. The cathode chamber 3 is separated from an anode chamber 2 by a cation-exchange membrane 4 so that only hydrogen ions formed in an anode chamber 2 may enter the cathode chamber 3 and metal ions in the anode chamber 2 may not enter the cathode chamber 3. By action of the cation-exchange membrane 4, hydrogen ions formed in the anode chamber 2 enter, through a diaphragm, the cathode chamber 3, where they are reacted with hydroxide ions formed by reduction reaction of dissolved oxygen to form water. Thereby, the increase of hydroxide ion concentration in the cathode chamber 3 is prevented not to increase pH in the cathode chamber to prevent the precipitating formation of metal hydroxide. And the cathode chamber 3 and the anode chamber 4 are alternatively used and regenerated.</p> |
