The invention relates to a remote-control indication device, comprising indication means and a control unit linked to the indication means and designed for controlling indication means. A device of this type is provided with a modem which is linked to the control unit, is designed to be connected to a telephone line and is suitable for receiving signals generated by the dialling unit of a telephone. The invention is applicable to an indicator (display) board which indicates the presence of persons in a building, for example an office or a hospital, or to an indicator board which indicates the availability of overnight accommodation in a particular area. All the user needs to update the display on the board is the use of an ordinary telephone.
