<p>PURPOSE:To improve the opening rate of picture elements by forming the three- dimensional black matrix structure of the active matrix liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display device has a structure constituted by sticking a 1st substrate 1 and a 2nd substrate 2 to each other and interposing a liquid crystal 13 between both. Switching elements and picture element electrodes 10 connected to these switching elements are formed in a matrix form on the surface of the substrate 1. A counter electrode 11 is formed on the substrate 2. Mask electrodes 12 insulated from the picture element electrodes 10 and the switching elements are provided in the regions exclusive of the apertures of the picture elements contributing to the display among the surface parts of the substrate 1. The liquid crystal 13 is acted as a shutter by impressing a prescribed voltage between the mask electrodes 12 and the counter electrode 11. The three-dimensional matrix structure is thus obtd.</p> |
