<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an aromatic fluorine compound useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals with easy operation in high yield and efficiency by using an easily recoverable and purifiable solvent available on an industrial scale at a low cost and effective for reducing the load on waste-water treatment. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I [R is halogenocarbonyl, CN, CHO, N02, alkoxycarbonyl, group of formula II (R* is alkyl) forming an N-alkyl- substituted phthalimide structure on the bonding aromatic ring, arylcarbonyl or dialkylaminocarbonyl; X is Cl, Br or I; k and n are integer of 1-5; k+n is integer of 2-6; when R is group of formula II, k is 2 and k+n is integer of 3-6] is made to react with a metal fluoride in the presence of a quaternary phosphonium salt as a catalyst to obtain the objective compound of formula III m is integer of 1-5; n>=m).
