The video recorder delays (2) line-sequential colour difference inputs (R-Y, B-Y) by one line period and amplifies (3) with a gain which is quadrupled by an amplitude detector (4) and threshold switch (5) when max. colour saturation within the line does not exceed 70%. A colour carrier (Fs) is frequency-modulated (6) with the amplified signal for recording by a video head (K2) on to the tape (T). In reproduction a demodulator (7) delivers colour difference signals in sequence to an amplifier (8) whose gain is switched correspondingly by a burst gate (9), amplitude rectifier (10) and threshold switch (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for S-VHS video signals. Colours can be reproduced with quality of original transmission.
