MECHANISM FOR CONNECTING OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE AND OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide a mechanism connecting an optical waveguide and an optical which smoothly transmits light by reducing the complicate alignment of cores and greatly decreasing their connection loss. CONSTITUTION:The connection surface of a waveguide holder 1 for coupling equipped with an optical waveguide is ground into a projection type connection surface 1a which provides aligning operation and protruded in the direction intersecting orthogonally with the optical waveguide, and the connection surfaces of optical fiber holders 4 and 4A for coupling equipped with optical fibers are ground into recessed connection surfaces 4 which provide aligning operation and recessed in the direction intersecting orthogonally with the optical fibers. Then the projection connection surface 1a and recessed connection surface 4a made to successively abut on each other are ruggedly engaged to align the core of the optical waveguide and the core of the optical fiber with each other.
