PURPOSE:To provide the rewritable magneto-optical recording medium of an ultra-high density which can form very small recording magnetic domains and the process for production thereof as well as the recording and reproducing device which can suppress noises and the interference of recording pits by reducing the spacings between recording tracks and enables magneto-optical recording, erasing or reproducing of the ultra-high density and the device thereof. CONSTITUTION:Concentrical or spiral guide patterns for positioning consisting of parts varying in refractive index distribution are formed in the enhancement film 2 on a disk substrate 1 to form the guide patterns for positioning in recording, erasing or reproducing of information by utilizing the difference in the refractive index distribution thereof and a magneto-optical recording film 3 having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, a 2nd enhancement film 4 and a metallic film 5 are provided thereon, by which the magneto-optical recording medium is produced. Recording, reproducing or erasing is executed by impressing a laser beam of a short wavelength and external magnetic field to such recording medium. |
