PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform high-speed and very precise transfer of a material to a machine such as a press forming machine or the like by a material transfer apparatus. SOLUTION: The material transfer apparatus 3 is equipped with a measuring and processing device 1 for length of the transferred material. The measuring and processing device 1 is comprised of a measuring device 5 which has a pair of rolls 8a, 8b to pinch and is rotated by the material P transferred intermittently by a designated length by the material transfer apparatus and a rotational angle detector 6 to measure the rotational angle of the pair of rolls as digital data, and a data processing device 9. The data processing device 9 converts the measured data by the rotational angle detector 6 to the data showing actual transferred length of the material, or the data showing deviation of a transferred length from a preset value and then outputs.
