A row of kitchen wall cupboards (10) supports an extn. system taking fumes from a cooker hood (15) to an outlet (12) in a wall, and returning fresh air from outside via a double-sided radial blower (13). The frame of the hood contains a major opening covered by the filter, and a minor opening at the end of a vertical tube (21) which can slide in and out to the desired level. ADVANTAGE - The fumes are captured near the point of origin so that the possibility of leakage of grease-laden vapour is reduced significantly.
