A lighting instrument projects a light beam of variable color along a longitudinal axis (12). Sets of color filters (20) are disposed generally radially about the longitudinal axis of the light beam. The filters of each set are pivotable about an axis of rotation (18) generally transverse to the longitudinal axis. Each filter is flexibly coupled to a ring (24) which in turn is coupled to a motor (26). When the motor actuates, the ring rotates about the longitudinal axis, causing each coupled filter of the set to rotate. <IMAGE>
