NEW VARIANT AND PRODUCTION OF GLYCERIN USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain glycerin in high conversion while suppressing production of a by-product such as mannitol, by inoculating Torulopsis sp. SN-7678 strain into a fermentable saccharide-containing culture medium, aerobically culturing the strain, separating and collecting the product from the cultured solution. CONSTITUTION:An artificial variant Torulopsis sp. SN-7678 strain (FERM P-12502) being pH2.5 to 7.0 in growth pH range and a concentration ratio of <=1/15 of glycerin which is a main product in an amount of mannitol produced as a by-product in culturing is inoculated into a culture medium containing fermentable saccharides such as glucose and aerobically cultured at 30 deg.C for 6 days in while retaining pH to 5 at a rotation speed of 800rpm under ventilation and the cultured liquid is subjected to centrifugal separation to remove the microbial cell and decoloration by active carbon and desalination by ion exchange resin are carried out and then eluate is concentrated and purified using a cation exchange resin column and the product is separated and collected to provide glycerin from fermentable saccharides in high conversion.
