A detecting unit of a putting exercise machine is provided to enable a golfer to grasp a speed, putting distance, and a moving direction of a ball detected using a rectangular detecting area and a right-triangular detecting area set in a planar space part of the exercise machine, thereby improving the golfer's putting skill. A detecting unit of a putting exercise machine includes: a main body(1) having a display part(1a), a reaction plate(1b), and side plates(1c,1d); a rectangular detecting area(F) set in a planar space between the side plates; two right-triangular detecting areas(A,B) divided by a diagonal line(L3) of the rectangular detecting area; a first sensor(S1) for detecting a ball arranged on a first line(L1) of the rectangular detecting area; a second sensor(S2) for detecting the ball arranged on a second line(L2) of the rectangular detecting area; and a third sensor(S3) for detecting the ball arranged on the diagonal line. The detecting unit detects a speed, direction, and putting distance of the ball by calculating two data values including a geometric element of the right-triangle detected by the sensors.
