Device for assembly of housings with common shaft - employs offset auxiliary boss for compensation of shaft eccentricity when independently machined housings are fitted together

The relative eccentricity of the common shaft (13) consequent on the play in the bearings is compensated when the two housings (11,12) are assembled together. Assembly involves an auxiliary boss (18) having an offset (24) corresp. to about half of the play between the centring of its shaft and the OD (20). The other housing (12) is taken up on the OD on an adaptation bore (21) on one bearing (16) of the shaft. USE/ADVANTAGE - For assembly of crankcases on IC engines, the two housings can be prepd. by machining entirely separately from each other.
