A novel, mechanically rigid material for chemical sensors, reference electrodes or the like, out of which metal salts such as crystalline potassium chloride are not leached by the test sample during operation, and in which a contamination of the latter is avoided, comprises a polymer having an admixture of a water-insoluble electrolyte which contains ions dissolved in an organic solvent. Said polymer may be a thermosetting plastic such as polyester resin, epoxy resin or an unhalogenated thermoplastic such as polyethylene, polypropylene or a halogenated thermoplastic such as polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene. The admixture may be composed of water-soluble lithium chloride dissolved in ethanol or anhydrous tetraethylammonium chloride dissolved in isopropanol and/or mixtures thereof. |
