The machine is designed to profile the rim of sheet-metal plates or strips by longitudinally driving the sheet-metal plate, and it comprises at least one line of rollers for driving and progressively forming the longitudinal edge of the plate into a desired edge profile. It includes at least one line of lateral return rollers 7, 7' which are associated with the line of forming rollers 3, mounted idly on a shaft 15 and each capable of pressing the sheet-metal plate or strip during its axial forming movement, the axes of rotation of the return rollers being inclined with respect to the perpendicular to the direction of advance of the metal sheet. Application to the one-side forming of sheet-metal strips having an increasing or decreasing variable width. <IMAGE>
